Decoding Senior Living: Independent Vs. Assisted Living

What housing arrangement is right for your retirement?

At Acacia Creek, we believe planning for retirement means thinking as much about how you want to live as where. As a continuing-care retirement community (CCRC), we focus on helping you live the life you love. That’s a stark difference from most traditional assisted-living communities, which primarily focus on helping residents with daily activities like bathing and dressing.

As a CCRC, Acacia Creek offers you the peace of mind of predictable health care costs and the assurance that you can access the care you need when you need it, all within our community. Unlike traditional assisted living communities with fee-for-service models, we prioritize your overall wellbeing. That means Acacia Creek grants you priority access to advanced care options right on-site. No need to go anywhere else; you can receive five-star care right on campus.

What Are the Levels of Care in Retirement Communities?

Retirement living comes in all shapes and sizes, from nursing homes to senior communities. It’s important to understand the levels of care that are available to you. Senior homes may include one or more of the following:

Independent Living: In this setting, residents complete all of their own daily tasks independently. This level of care is also referred to by several other names, including living communities, retirement homes, retirement communities, or just senior communities.

Assisted Living: In assisted-living arrangements, residents get help with some of their daily activities, like getting around and managing medication. When assisted living is the only level of care being offered, these communities are often referred to as “assisted living residences” or “assisted living facilities.” They might also call themselves retirement communities.

Skilled nursing: Here, residents receive 24/7 supervision and care, including from specially licensed nurses. These facilities are also referred to as nursing homes or skilled nursing homes, depending on the training and certifications of the nurses on staff.

Why Choose a CCRC?

Continuing-care retirement communities like Acacia Creek are unique in that they offer multiple levels of care, all housed on-site. That means residents can progress from independent living to assisted living to 24-hour nursing or memory care without ever having to leave campus. That’s particularly important for couples, especially if one partner needs greater levels of care than the other. In a CCRC, residents can:

  • Live in a community dedicated to preserving your active lifestyle
  • Surround yourself with inspiration to live the life you love
  • Access all levels of care without leaving the community

ACACIA CREEK RETIREMENT COMMUNITY inspires residents to live an active, meaningful life. Our mission as a senior community is to enrich the independence, well-being, and security of our residents through exceptional services and care based on Masonic values.
