New Year, New Action

What’s on your bucket list for 2020? If you’ve included trying something new, you’re in good company—and on track for successful aging!

According to the National Institute on Aging, “people who are involved in hobbies and other social and leisure pursuits may be at lower risk for (and less likely to develop) health problems, including dementia.” This is because when we challenge ourselves to do something new, we are creating new connections in our brains, becoming more purposefully engaged with our community and enhancing our overall well-being.

At Acacia Creek, a Certified Center for Successful Aging, and retirement community, residents and staff focus on achieving optimal health by growing the whole person – intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually. Engaging in new activities touches upon all four of these successful aging components, benefitting both the body and mind. Just as we enrich our own lives when we share our interests and knowledge, we also provide others with an opportunity to learn and grow.

It is this ethos that encourages residents from Acacia Creek and our neighboring community, the Masonic Homes of California, to lead and host their own clubs and programs. These activities include a variety of social, recreational, and creative pursuits that span the successful-aging spectrum. From Tai Chi to model airplanes and drones; from chess to woodworking, knitting, and pickleball, our campus truly has an activity for every interest. These programs reflect the diverse interests and accrued knowledge of our community’s residents, and ideas for new programs or activities are always welcome.

Acacia Creek is centered around meeting new friends, trying new activities, sharing our passions, and of course challenging ourselves. It reminds us that we are empowered to maintain and improve our quality of life. To truly embrace a successful aging lifestyle, we must learn to continually set and achieve goals; to move beyond our comfort zone and embrace an endless variety of new activities and experiences that bring joy and enhance personal growth.

Acacia Creek Retirement Community inspires residents to live an active, meaningful life. Our mission as a senior community is to enrich the independence, well-being, and security of our residents through exceptional services and care based on Masonic values.
