Reduce Stress this Holiday Season

At Acacia Creek, a Masterpiece Living Certified Center for Successful Aging, residents and team members work to embody successful aging practices in everyday life. Successful aging includes focusing on optimal health in the four primary categories of wellness—physical, mental, social, and spiritual. Stress can affect every one of these important elements.
That’s why it’s important to make a conscious effort each day to manage stress in a healthy way.
This holiday season, amid all the shopping bags and to-do lists, take time to ground yourself with Acacia Creek’s successful aging tips for reducing holiday stress:
Physical: Get moving! Exercising just 30 minutes per day, three or four times each week, is proven to release endorphins (pleasure hormones) in your body, helping expel unhealthy stress. Leave your desk and go outside to help clear your head.
Mental: Acknowledge progress by creating reasonable to-do lists and crossing off each one once it is completed. If you spend the whole day scrambling to get things done, reward your hard work with something to look forward to afterwards: a good dinner, talking with a close friend, a long walk, or watching your favorite TV show.
Social: Tap into your support network. Schedule quality time with family and friends on a regular basis. On days when it’s impossible to get together in person, send positive texts – they’ll make you both feel good.
Spiritual: Try journaling, meditating, or praying during stressful times. Reflect upon things in your life that you are grateful for each day: Chronicle these feelings in a gratitude journal, and return to it in times of stress.

On behalf of everyone at Acacia Creek, wishing you and your family a joyful holiday season and successful new year!
