Acacia Creek Recognized as One of the Most Active Retirement Communities in the Country

For the ninth consecutive year, the Acacia Creek team spent the month racking up the steps—and this week, it was recognized as one of the most active communities in the country. Through its monthlong Movement Matters campaign this past May, Masterpiece Living (MPL), a nationwide organization aimed at changing the perception of aging through research-based approaches, challenged 80 partner organizations across the country to move more, move with purpose, and make that increased movement a way of life. Residents and team members at Acacia Creek stepped up to the challenge in a big way, recording the highest participation rates in the country and winning MPL’s Most Engaged award.

More than half of all Acacia Creek residents, employees, and other team members took part in the challenge, dubbed Move for Wellness, recording their weekly exercise times. Of 13 Acacia Creek movement teams, the overall participation rate was 92 percent, with several recording 100 percent participation. “Having people that you’re teaming up with to work on your physical activity gives us both things—exercise and community,” says Acacia Creek Successful Aging Coach Penny Vittoria. “When it’s a community-wide event, you have this camaraderie. It’s what everyone does.”

Acacia Creek offers residents a plethora of exercise options. Sitting on 305 acres of golden hills and wooded trails, it boasts a fully appointed workout gym, indoor spa and swimming pool, and on-staff exercise physiologist. Our beautiful hilltop vantage point provides wonderful views of wide-open spaces, a creek, walking trails, and wildlife. Our mission as a senior community is to enrich the independence, well-being, and security of our residents through exceptional services and care based on Masonic values.
