Exercise: The Magic Pill

Exercise is known to be the key to a healthy lifestyle. Studies have shown that regular exercise can help reverse some forms of heart disease, prevent cancers, relieve the pain of arthritis, fight depression, and maintain a healthy body weight. Plus, it makes you feel great.
According to the American College of Sports Medicine, you need 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise in order for your body to cash in on the benefits. That may seem like a lot, let’s put it in perspective: That can be as little as 10 minutes of moderate exercise three times a day, five days a week. Moderate exercise means getting your heart rate up to between 50 and 70 percent of your maximum. That includes activities like cycling, walking, swimming, even dancing! At Acacia Creek, that might look like one session in the on-campus gym; three 45-minute Sit & Be Fit classes a week, plus a 15-minute walk on an off-day. Or take advantage of Acacia Creek’s many other fitness classes, led by fitness physiologist Yanasa Williams, like Functional Fitness and Muscle Maintenance, which are all available for both residents and those on the waiting lists! These are a great start for building muscle strength, flexibility, and endurance.
